Both the crossword puzzles and the word search puzzles can be challenging. They include big words that will be unfamiliar to those who have little experience with the fossil. Yet even younger children of 8, 9, or 10 can be successful if they have had some introduction to the information prior to attempting the puzzles.

Before handing out any of these fossil activities, do an overview of the information or a vocabulary lesson Take a few minutes to read through the web pages on this site that correspond with the puzzle(s) you have chosen. Share what you have learned with your children.

Secondary students, ages 11 and older, should be able to research the answers to thes fossil activities themselves if they have adequate resources. All of the answers can be found on the pages of www.fossils-facts-and-finds.com. Generally the title of the puzzle has a corresponding web page(s). If your children have internet access, the link above will provide all they need to search out the answers. As an alternative, you could print the pages and make them available as reading or note-taking resources.
