I can't tell you what this is. It could be a fossil or it could be something else.

The thing about gravel roads is that it's hard to tell where the gravel was quarried. Sometimes the location gives the clues needed to identify a specimen. You may get some information here:

There is some detailed information about the rocks found around Tuscaloosa and their ages.
